Love yourself by loving your liver.

Your amazing liver is involved in over 500 important functions including detoxification and toxins neutralization. Besides being the largest organ in our body, it is a unique organ because it can regenerate new cells and tissue. Additionally, it is arguably the most influential organ to maintain you young and healthy.

Dr. Jean Claude Nerette summarizes what you can do to love your liver with these uncomplicated easy steps:

Limit alcohol (toxin) intake to one standard drink per day for women, and two for men up to age 65 and revert to one drink per day after 65. Never consume any medications, especially acetaminophen (Tylenol) in the same 24-hour period of drinking alcohol.

Avoid contact with all types of toxic chemicals or handle them safely. We are surrounded by environmental, food and daily product chemicals. Some examples are aesthetic products, paints, cleaners or organophosphates from fertilizers. Chemicals that can affect your liver can enter your body through the skin, nose or mouth, therefore, always wear appropriate gloves, mask, eye protection and protective clothing.

Maintain a healthy weight through nutrition and lifestyle habits to prevent obesity, fatty liver, metabolic syndrome or type 2 diabetes. Avoid especially refined sugars, excessive alcohol and fruit juices.

Choose medications carefully, since they all (prescription or natural) have to be processed by your liver. Always consult a doctor that is experienced and familiarized with the side effects and alternatives.

Support your liver with Milk Thistle for cleansing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and tumeric to decrease key pro-inflammatory molecules contributory to initiation and development of liver diseases.

To summarize, begin regenerating your liver tissue by avoiding drugs, excessive alcohol and poor diet, to prevent among other diseases irreversible scarring or worse, terminal cirrhosis.
